Two representatives of the small and interesting section. Mesodeutzia Schneider have already been figured in the Botanical Magazine: D. mollis Duthie at t. 8559, and D. compacta Craib at t. 8795. The great majority of the species of the genus Deutzia fall into the section Eudeutzia Engl., characterized by the valvate arrangement of the petals in bud. From these the species of section Mesodeutzia are readily distinguished by their imbricate petals. It seems
