Botanical Description
One of the last tasks of the late Dr. Stapf was to complete the description of the tulip figured in this plate and to give it the name Tulipa cypria. His description is published below with only minor alterations and his notes are incor- porated in the following historical and critical observations. So far as it is known Theodor Kotschy was the first to collect this tulip in 1862 near Panteleimon. It was later collected near Myrtou by the Rev. Alfred Huddle (1st May, 1927) and the late Dr. G. C.
