Botanical Description
Maxillaria fucata was described in 1886 by the younger Reichenbach from a plant in the late Sir Trevor Lawrence's celebrated collection of orchids at Burford, Dorking. In 1895 a fine individual, bearing sixteen flowers, was exhibited at a meeting of the Royal Horticultural Society and received an Award of Merit. Three years later, Sir Trevor presented a specimen to the Glasnevin Botanic Gardens, Dublin, where it is still alive, and from this plant the accompanying plate was prepared in 1930. The picture may therefore be con- sidered a representation of the type plant, especially as there is no record of any other introduction of the species into this.
