Botanical Description
The plant figured at tab. 6860 of this Magazine as S. reni- formis, would appear to be S. missurica, but it is certainly not a typical example of the species-the long lax inflores- cence and the hairy ovary, for example, being unusual features. Both species are natives of the North-Western United States. S. stellata is so far recorded only from a small area in the Columbia River Gorge, north-west Oregon (Hood * The true S. reniformis Benth. is the very different species generally known as S. rotundifolia Gray, see Pennell 1.c. S. reniformis is the older name and S. rotundifolia becomes a synonym of it.
