Botanical Description
The identification of this plant with D. albida Batalin was originally made at Edinburgh from Farrer's herbarium specimens. A duplicate, labelled "M rping, 22 May, 1914, Farrer 109," was presented to the Kew Herbarium in 1927. In an accompanying letter, Mr. W. E. Evans suggested that it " came nearest to D. discolor Hemsl.* e descr." e descr." Two circumstances would tend to support the determination as D. albida: firstly, this is the only species described or even recorded from the province of Kansu, and Farrer's plant was collected a few miles from the type locality; secondly, like Farrer's Deutzia, it differs from its Szechwan ally D. longifolia (Bot. Mag. t. 8493) in its pure white flowers. *Potanin's specimens were actually distributed from Herb. Hort. Petrop. under this name.
