Botanical Description
Two plants a very different appearance, and seem to warrant the specific rank accorded to them by the majority of botan- ists. Furthermore, the two species appear to occupy distinct geographical areas, for C. dentatus, which is also confined to California, occurs further south than C. foliosus, being found along the coast in Monterey and San Luis Obispo Counties. The plant previously figured and described in this magazine, t. 4806, as a new species, C. floribundus Hook., is now generally referred to C. dentatus as a variety; it appears to * A few scattered short hairs can also be detected, with the aid of a compound microscope, on the smaller veins.
