Botanical Description
Who writes that he raised two plants from cuttings given to him in 1919 by the late Sir John Ross of Bladensburg, from the tree at Rostrevor. The taller of the two plants at Kells is now seven feet high, and so far does not seem to have suffered from the rigours of the present winter. The other plant, however, is quite brown and appears to be dead, though curiously enough it is growing in a less cold place than the first plant. Lord Headfort tells us that Callitris oblonga has never been damaged before, but conditions at Kells have been particularly severe this winter, as may be judged from the following data which Lord Headfort has supplied. On December 20th, 1938, the thermometer in the screen fell to.
