Generic Character.
Cor. inæqualis. Filimenta tranverse pedicello affixa.

Specific Character and Synonyms.
SALVIA chamædrioïdes; caule fruticoso decumbente, foliis ovalibus crenatis subtus tomentosis, verticillis quadrifloris subnudis, galeis pilosís. SALVIA chamædrioïdes; caule decumbente, foliis ovatis crenatis subtus tomentosís. Cav. ic. 2. p. 77. t. 197. SALVIA Chamadrys; foliis ellipticis crenatis subtus incanis, spicis interruptis, caule fruticolo. Willd. Hort. Berol. 29.

The SALVIA Chamadrys of WILDENOW differs from the chamædroides of CAVANILLES in nothing but being inferior in size, in the flowers being opposite, not four in a whorl, and in the bractæs being persfftent; whereas in our plant as in that of CAVANILLES these fall off before the blofsom is expanded. It appears by the figure in the Hortus Berolínensis, that WILDENOW's plant was very weakly, which has probably been the cause of the above differences; ours in every respect corresponds with that of CAVANILLES, from whom we learn that it is a native of Mexico. It
